How tired are you of the Bridget Jones synonym? We're talking about the misconception that if you are a single woman approaching or in her thirties then you must be desperate for a mate and obsessed with your biological clock. Not to mention the attitude that an increasing number of single women is down to some kind of 'fussiness' on our part (which recent data suggests is a myth). As it turns out, today's career-minded women is far from likely to be down in the dumps if she finds herself spending Valentines' without a man, unlike her male counterpart, new figures have revealed.

What is today's gal looking for? It is commonly thought that all ladies love a bad boy - just think of Brad Pitt's thieving cowboy JD in Thelma and Louise, Judd Nelson's continual troublemaker John Bender from the Breakfast Club or Marlon Brando as moody husband Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire? Criminal, but we love them anyway!

Well, according to a recent survey, in real life, we actually want a reliable gent. Here's the proof.

Reliability, honesty, equality…

A survey that polled 1,000 women aged between 18 and 34 years old found that nine out of ten believed that reliability was a critical characteristic of the people they wished to be in their lives, including relationship-wise, revealed the study's author' Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

"Modern girls are taking charge of their lives by returning to fundamental values like reliability," added Jane Buckingham, author of The Modern Girl's Guide series.
